HOOOOLY MOLY guys! Hiking up Stone Mountain was SUCH a good time! I’ve never been hiking before but I gotta say, I think I LOVE it! It felt so exhilarating to get up to the top and just look out over the entire city of Atlanta.
I have no doubt that I’ll be pretty sore tomorrow, but it was COMPLETELY worth it! Definitely something I’d do again!
We picked up Shannon from lab on our way back from the hike and headed out to dinner for our very last night together
We dined at an awesome Atlanta establishment – The Horseradish Grill.
Reminiscent of a day and time when the pace was much slower, and nearby
Powers Ferry Road was little more than a dusty horse trail, Horseradish
Grill – Atlanta’s oldest continuously operating restaurant is a dining
experience offering guests a glimpse of yesteryear. The cuisine of the
American South is the oldest and most completely developed of all
regional American cuisines.”
I think this description perfectly captures what this place is all about. Old charm, true southern hospitality and AMAZING food!
Upon being seated we were immediately presented with menus that were just brimming with incredible options -
As we mulled over our many options, a lovely basket of these babies made it over to our table
Uh, yeah. That’s corn bread, biscuits and walnut butter on the side! SO. GOOD.
We all went with some form of greens to start -
I chose the Fresh Local Field Greens – it came with a simple vinaigrette, toasted sunflower seeds and fresh strawberry slices
OH MY GOSH! This was seriously good guys – I polished off mine AND the few bites of Mike’s that he left
I also tasted Shan’s Caesar -
It all tasted so fresh! Each individual flavor just BURST in your mouth with each bite
The flavor-bursting continued with our entrees. I went with the salmon as it was the special of the day.
It came with sauteed spinach and broccolini. On top there were pickled vegetables that completely made the dish. I could only polish off of that guy but you better believe I packed it up to take home
I also tasted Shannon’s scallops
…I don’t know if I should even admit this but… I’ve NEVER tried a scallop! Can you believe it?! I love shrimp and thought that it might be similar, but they’re actually quite different. I’m not sure how much a fan I am of scallops :/
Mike ordered a traditional southern meal – fried chicken!
Neither Mike nor I had never tried grits, so in the spirit of going southern, Patrick ordered a side of both plain and roasted red pepper -
I actually really liked them! I’ll have to make sure to order these again in the future
I finished dinner and felt perfectly full.
Then this was placed in front of me:
I just could resist! I had had my eye on the Kentucky Oatmeal Spice Cake served with homemade ice cream, and as soon as Shannon told me that it was their signature dessert, I just had to get it.
Shan ordered the Chocolate Chocolate Layer Cake which of course I had a few bites of
Hah! We barely put a dent in them! I definitely could come back here for JUST dessert. I felt sad to have to leave so much of the Oatmeal Spice cake because it was SO incredibly good! I gobbled up as many bites as I could – it tasted as thought it had about 18 sticks of butter in it! Haha.
It was such a great way to spend our final night in Atlanta. Thanks for and AMAZING trip guys!
We’re off to watch Big Brother on the couch and soak up as much time together as we possibly can
Night everyone!

I can’t believe you guys got so much done yesterday! You guys really didn’t sit down for long on this trip, did you?!
I’m so excited that you went to Horseradish Grill last night… I live down the street! That place gets packed before the Chastain Park concerts (the ampitheatre is a few blocks away), which are so much fun. You go with a bunch of friends, pack wine and appetizers, and have a picnic while you’re watching the concert!
Have a safe trip home… hopefully your flight isn’t delayed!
