grilling season is here and i'm bringing you 3 fun ways to jazz up veggie dogs! // cait's plate
THESE RECIPES ARE SPONSORED BY LIGHTLIFE

Grilling season is officially here so I’m thrilled to be bringing you 3 fun ways to jazz up your veggie dogs this season!

I know a lot of people turn their noses up when it comes to veggie dogs but just hear me out first because there’s a lot to love about these Lightlife Smart Dogs!  They’re packed with plant-based protein (so you’re not missing out on that just by choosing a veggie dog option) BUT, because it’s plant-based they contain no saturated fat and cholesterol.  Their meat-based counterpart on the other hand can’t claim that!  Not only that but they taste like the real deal!  Once you pop them on the grill and get that delicious char on there, you’ll be happy to give up your usual beef-based frankfurter, I promise.

And finally, I’m giving you not one, not two, but three fresh and delicious ways to serve them up!  If that’s not worth giving them a try, then I don’t know what is!

First up, the Mexican Veggie Dog:

This veggie dog is so delicious and such a nice twist on what you usually expect from a hot dog.  A layer of yogurt-based chipotle adobo sauce (recipe here) is slathered on the bun which is then topped with a char-grilled Smart Dog, charred corn, avocado, cojita cheese and finished off with a sprinkle of cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice.  If you like things really spicy, you can even throw a little hot sauce on the top there.

Next is what I call the All-American Veggie Dog:

If you like to keep things simple, then this one is for you.  It contains all the toppings I put on my burger (except the lettuce) – tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard.  I may be weird, but I have always put pickles on my hot dogs – the salty, slightly sour taste contrasts perfectly with the dog.  And I’m happy to say it works just as well with these Smart Dogs!  Combined with the crunch of the onion  and the juice of the tomato, it truly almost feels like you’re eating a burger!

Finally, I’ve created the Greek Dog:

Being a Greek girl myself, I might be biased with my love for this one but it was honestly my favorite of the 3!  It’s topped with all the Greek goodness you can imagine!  I slathered homemade tzatziki sauce (see below for recipe) on the bun then layered thinly sliced cucumbers and tomatoes on that, topped with a char-grilled Smart Dog, diced red onion and finished off with some feta.  You can also throw some olives on there and really transport yourself to theMediterranean!
