Description
this margarita skips the mix and opts for flavor from just 4 ingredients including freshly squeezed lime and a little bit of simple syrup. then it’s all poured over crushed ice for the perfect light & refreshing drink for warmer weather!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 tablespoons silver tequila
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeeze lime juice – see note #1
- 2 tablespoons simple syrup (store-bought or make your own! – see note #2)
- 1 tablespoon water
- For serving: crushed or cubed ice, kosher salt, fresh lime wedges or slices
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients into a large pitcher or cocktail shaker and stir or shake to combine. Add additional water, lime juice or simple syrup as needed to suit your needs.
- Swipe the rim of a glass with a lime wedge to wet it then dip the rim in kosher salt
- Place ice cubes in the salt-rimmed glass then pour in your cocktail (note: you can also shake everything up along with the crushed ice as desired).
Notes
- I recommend pouring the freshly squeezed lime juice through a strainer in order to remove any pith
- For simple syrup: combine equal parts water & sugar. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water whisking until smooth (don’t let it boil!) then allow to cool before adding.
- I have also added 1-2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice (in lieu of the typically utilized Cointreau, an orange-flavored liqueur) in the past with good results and a slightly sweeter taste.
- You can puree different fruits in a food processor or blender and add 1-2 tablespoons for different flavors (watermelon works very well with the lime!). I recommend using half the agave if doing this as the fruit purees add sweetness. You can always add more as desired.
- Recipe is intended for those of legal drinking age. Please always remember to drink responsibly and never drink and drive.
