THURSDAY THOUGHTS ON: EATING WELL

0 · May 9, 2013 · 12 Comments

I don’t think it’s any secret that I love food.

All food.

I’ve been that way ever since I was a little girl – it’s part of what drew me to pursuing a degree in nutrition and dietetics.

If there’s one overarching thing that I’ve learned thus far through school, it’s that there is no such thing as a perfect diet.

I’m lucky enough to work with Time Inc. and receive the latest issues of their lifestyle titles each month – and while I was perusing this month’s latest issue of Health I came across this:

I rarely read the diet and fitness advice in health magazines because often it’s highlighting some ridiculously restrictive plan and I just simply don’t believe in that.  So you can imagine my delight when I saw this little blurb within the “Do Trendy Diets Work?” article by Courtney Rubin in Health’s May issue.

Here are my thoughts on the above advice…

I know it can feel frustrating to be patient when you feel like you have a long way to go, but just know that by doing so, you’re helping your body change for GOOD.  You’re instilling good habits little by little that will add up to big changes in the end.  Each day that you practice patience and kindness to your body (by listening to it and providing it with what it’s asking for) is a day closer to achieving your goal for good – whatever it may be.

There is no perfect mix for everyone – when it comes to calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein – we have guidelines, sure, but ultimately you need to find what works for YOU.

Need some inspiration?  Follow me on Instagram where I often take photos of my daily meals to share with you all

I LOVE this post! Eat good, clean food in reasonable amounts. If you want cake, have it… just not all day, every day. Why do humans have to complicate everything?!

Exactly!!! I have no idea – I’m sure part of it is just the diet industry confusing them. But at the very base of it, good nutrition is pretty simple!

Haha yes! I like that saying – I might steal it from you when I have clients of my own 😉 Then I’ll tell them to go buy Healthy Bites!

I freaking LOVE this! My biggest pet peeve is listening to people (my own family included sometimes) talk about their diets or their “plan” to lose weight that is anything but all things in moderation and an active lifestyle. There’s no QUICK fix, people!

INDEED. While it would be nice if there were, there simply isn’t and often with ‘quick fix’ plans you can count on gaining whatever weight back you lost in just as ‘quick’ a time!

I’m with you, there is most definitely no perfect diet and there is no one size fits all diet! It’s all trial and error for what works! I am already ALLLL over your IG, your meals make me swoon.

Thank you for sharing this post! I totally love it! It drives me nuts when I hear how people are swearing of something or other just to lose that weight or trying to follow how someone else eats and how they just read or heard some article on what and how to eat which are more often than not skewed. At the end of the day, it’s moderation and and healthy lifestyle and like what lindsay said, everyone’s needs are different, we are unique individuals with unique bodies, so no two are the same!
you have to find what works best for your body!

Phew! thanks so much for this article! ((:

I love this. Thanks for your thoughts. How to eat, what to eat, etc. has gotten WAY too complicated I feel like, and yes, I get caught up in it. It’s much simpler than the media (or even other bloggers) makes it appear, and I think you do a FABULOUS job of summarizing what we need to focus on. 🙂

Aw, thanks! So glad you enjoyed it. And I agree – WAY too complicated…and it doesn’t need to be!
