weekend scenes: from ocean isle beach

0 · Jun 2, 2013 · 17 Comments

We were lucky enough to spend this weekend with friends in Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina – it’s such a nice respite from the city!

Where we ate & drank:

While we mostly cooked and ate at home, we did make it out to a couple places that are worth highlighting…

Pogies Waterfront Bar & Grill: This place was awesome. Not only do they have rooftop dining so you get to watch the sunset (and rise depending on how long you stay!) but the food is delicious. It’s definitely worth making the trip – they have everything from she crab soup and fresh fish tacos to burgers (they even offer a black bean burger for a nice vegetarian option)

Ocean Isle Creamery: This is a must do when you’re in Ocean Isle Beach. It’s not only the cutest little place but it has the BEST flavors (cookie dough cheesecake, m&m and ‘da bomb’ which is chocolate ice cream with all kinds of goodies thrown in).

I’d also recommend Sharky’s – the food isn’t as good as Pogies, but it’s an essential when in Ocean Isle Beach. We didn’t visit this time but we’ve gone several times in the past and each time we do, I completely fall in love with the character of the place all over again.

Calabash Fishing Fleet: Just outside of Ocean Isle Beach is a small town called Calabash that is known for its seafood. If you like fresh seafood, this is the place to go! It literally doesn’t get any fresher than this – the shrimp we got here went straight from the boat to our plates and MAN was it good. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area and a seafood lover.

What we did

Kayaking: Yup! We did it again. I can’t make any suggestions for companies to go through this time around because we didn’t go through one, but I’m sure a quick google search will turn up more than enough! There were a TON of people out there with us at all times – it’s peaceful, relaxing and a good workout all at the same time!

Beaching: While we didn’t get to spend quite as much time on the beach as we wanted, we did get down there and we sure did enjoy the time we got!

Reading: I flew through “Start Something That Matters” by Blake Mycoskie (the guy who started TOMS) and continued reading Casual Vacancy (JK Rowling’s new book).

Watching sunrises and sunsets: Cause really, is there anything better? I know I might be a tad more obsessed than most…but still, no matter who you are, I think it’s pretty hard not to enjoy them.

Other than that we did lots of hanging out, catching up and enjoying our time. I hope you all enjoyed your weekends as well!

Gaaah. I mean. That summer light is just KILLING me. I am so jealous of your post-run dip in the ocean. And ever single other thing you did on this trip.

I really like it so far! It’s not really a happy book – but it definitely has well-developed characters and an interesting plot!

beautiful post (as i’m sure you’ve heard already). you have a simplicity to your style that is just so elegant, i really like it. actually i was looking at my phone instagram feed last night in bed and saw that you wrote you had just put up a new post but i was already in bed, so i decided to save it to look through during this mornings coffee, which is exactly what i’m doing right now, before i leave for the first day of my internship. 🙂
