The Art of Eating

I totally dropped the ball today!

I meant to tell you guys that today was National Walk @ Lunch Day!

Image001

Sorry about that one…but I say we can unofficially make tomorrow the same and call it even 🙂

That said, I decided to drop my things after lunch and head outside for a walk on what turned out to be a beautiful day!

I was so happy to get outside!

I followed my walk up with 20 minutes of yoga and by the time I showered Chad was home and we were back out the door for one of his co-worker’s going away parties.

We sipped ice waters and enjoyed the night then headed out to a little date night dinner at The Liberty:

There was no outdoor seating but I actually wasn’t too heartbroken over it because the night had definitely cooled off quite a bit!  Plus, the atmosphere inside was pretty great 🙂

More ice waters to get the meal started…

Then I went with a glass of red wine (Cabernet)

IMG 7498

It was quite good and the cheapest one on the list!  Whoever says price buys quality of wine?!  You can find some pretty good blends for a darn good price!

I started with the simple garden salad (mixed greens with toasted almonds, apples & herb vinaigrette)…

…which was fabulous.  I was a little nervous about the herb vinaigrette because I don’t tend to love things that are super herb-y, but it was delicious!

For our main dishes I went with the Cedar Plank Roasted Wild Scottish Salmon, farro risotto, mushrooms, young carrots, organic spinach:

The farro risotto was amazing! The whole time I was eating it I couldn’t stop saying “this is so good!” while simultaneously thinking “I have to buy farro to cook at home!”

The salmon was also perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside and perfectly flaky and tender on the inside.

Chad went with the Kobe Slow Braised Beef Short Ribs (with garlic mashed potatoes, oven roasted tomatoes, baby green beans & cabernet sauvignon reduction) which looked absolutely amazing (and judging by what was left on his plate afterward, they were):

Overall we really enjoyed the meal.  The service was impeccable, the food was beautifully presented and delicious and the atmosphere was awesome.

Definitely a place we’ll be visiting again!

We’re all curled up now watching season 1 of Felicity on Neftlix.  I always forget how good this show is…

Night!

I just started watching Felicity (for the first time) on Netflix this week, and am totally hooked…almost through season 1 already! Thank goodness there are 4 seasons to catch up on! Feel like I should have been watching this when I was in college, but it’s still a great show 🙂

Ah! I’m so glad! And it’s definitely good any time – I loved it in high school/college and even now 🙂 So happy I have another Felicity fan to talk to!!

I love walking! One of my favorite activities because its so relaxing 🙂 I went on a walk after breakfast today.

Dinner looks amazing! I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, so pleasant. You definitely need to travel to Los angeles so I can take you to some delicious foodie places!!

By the way, not sure if you are a fan of cottage cheese but have you ever tried it in your overnight oats? I’ve done it a couple of times and its delicious. I think its a bit thicker than yogurt but it gives the oats a cheesecakey/cottage cheese flavor.

Hope you have a relaxing evening 🙂

I totally agree on the walking! And I would LOVE to come to LA. I’ve never been and I’m dying to come some time!

I’m not really the biggest cottage cheese fan but I wish I were because I bet it’s fabulous! Maybe I’ll give it a try one of these days 🙂

I agree completely. It’s one of my go-to meals to order out because I rarely cook it at home!

I live in Eastern WA and it’s wine country over here. People here often have blind wine tasting parties and even the most experienced wino would sometimes pick the cheapest wine. You never know, right? Chad’s dinner looks so good.

Totally! I’ve read about studies like that and always find it interesting to see the results – I’ve had really expensive bottles and really cheap bottles and sometimes the better tasting are the cheaper ones!

And I know – I was drooling over his dinner, it smelled AMAZING!

I actually did walk at lunch yesterday – sometimes you need the mental break from the office!

Oh yay! And I totally agree – I used to get out and walk at least for 15 minutes every day at lunch. That mental health break is SO necessary sometimes!

I’m down with making tomorrow (now today) walk at lunch day. In fact I already had planned to walk to the library on my lunch break. SWEET! 🙂

Farro is great, right? I like to cook some and make a little pilaf with edamame beans, halved cherry tomatoes, sprinkled with some salty pepitas and drizzled with olive oil! Mmmm

I LOVED it! I’ve never made it at home but am definitely going to make a point to! Maybe I’ll sub your pilaf for farro and try it that way!

Exactly, use farro instead of rice in the pilaf. It’s amazing!

WILD Scottish Salmon. Not really sure about that.
It is very rare, but hopefully that restaurant sticks to ‘truth in menus’
Atlantic salmon is the breed, very rarely commercially fished, mainly farmed.

Hmm interesting! I never knew that. I agree, hopefully the restaurant is not lying but I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if they did!
