weekend scenes: from milwaukee

1 · Oct 9, 2012 · 14 Comments

Hi friends!  Long time, no talk!  I hope everyone enjoyed their weekends (and long weekends if you were so lucky!)

We had a fabulous weekend in Milwaukee!

Chad and his friend John were running the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon so we headed that way for the weekend.

We stayed with Chad’s friend John and I couldn’t get over the view from his place…amazing.  Especially in the morning as the sun was coming up!

In fact, the views all weekend were amazing.  The foliage all around Milwaukee was just breath-taking.

Along with the beautiful views we had absolutely amazing food.  I didn’t get photos of all of it but we ate at the following places and I would HIGHLY recommend them!

Ryan Braun’s Graffito – We sat down to a piping hot loaf of bread and olive oil.  Then I started with the house salad which had Artichokes, Red Onion, Tomatoes, Fennel topped with champagne balsamic vinaigrette then had the Salmon which was served over Garlic Spinach, Roasted Tomato,Fennel Tapenade,Beurre blanc as well as a glass of Pinot Noir.  It was all absolutely delicious from start to finish.

Funnily enough we ended up eating at the table next to Ryan Braun himself!

We also ate at Alterra’s 5th Ward Foundry – amazing coffee and amazing menu items!

We did lunch at Public Market one afternoon as well.  The second I walked in I was in love.  It reminded me a lot of the markets at Quincy Square in Boston and Chelsea Market in NYC – both of which I adore!

You walk in and you’re bombarded with TONS of options.  From soups to sushi, make-your-own salads, fresh loaves of bread…it was incredible.  Definitely a great place to go if you’re with a group of people who have all different tastes.

The last place I’m going to recommend to you guys is a burger bar called Stack’d.  It was awesome.

I did a make-your-own burger and had a black bean burger on a pretzel bun (they also offered sprouted wheat!) with onions, pickles, avocado, lettuce and tomatoes.  On the side I had sweet potato fries…some of the best I’ve had out yet!

And lastly but certainly not least – the marathon!

This was a BEAUTIFUL marathon.  It was all along the lake with tree-lined pathways full of Autumn leaves.

So proud of those two!

Both guys finished happy and healthy (if not a little sore) – a perfect way to end a great weekend!

Exactly! It was SO hard for me to control myself but I knew I had to fly back and couldn’t bring all the food back 🙁

How fun! I have never been to Milwakee…I had no idea it was so pretty!

(Also, Chad in that last shot of him by himself. Umm, so handsome.)

I know right!? I had no idea either – it’s such a great city and one I’d never thought about before!

(And, well, I’m gonna have to go ahead agree with you there 🙂 )

      Love you friend!

    What an amazing weekend!
I love how you can see signs of fall everywhere you go. That is the unfortunate thing about Vegas. You don’t get those changing seasons.

I know well even here in Charlotte we haven’t been getting much of a change! Such a bummer!
