weekend scenes: from vermont

0 · Jun 23, 2013 · 20 Comments

We had a lovely summer weekend up in Vermont.

After spending the majority of last week in Atlanta celebrating my sister who just finished her PhD program, we had a few days at home before heading straight back out the door to Vermont.

We were lucky enough to fly through Boston so we got to meet up with my cutie little nieces, my sister and brother-in-law for a quick bite to eat before hopping the bus up to Vermont (thanks again for making the trip into the city Court!)

Where we ate & drank:

King Arthur Bakery & Cafe: This place is a baker’s DREAM. I can barely contain myself every time we step foot in here and this time was no exception. The atmosphere is amazing, the food is delicious and you can literally spend hours in their little kitchen shop. They also have a baking school that I’m bound and determined to go to at some point in my life.

Their soy lattes rock and where food is concerned you pretty much cannot go wrong. I got the black bean burger with chipotle aioli on whole wheat, had bites of the brownie, the magic bar and the chocolate chip cookie all of which were to die for. Chad’s nieces also dove head-first into some vanilla cupcakes without complaint so I’m pretty sure they can be vouched for as well πŸ™‚

Β

Sandy’s: This place is a must-do in the town of Sharon – it’s just a hop skip and a jump over from Norwich (the town where the King Arthur’s is) – it makes, hands-down, the BEST ice cream cones – plus they offer 24 different flavors of soft serve. The last time I went I got chocolate-peanut butter swirl and loved it; this time I got black raspberry and loved it just as much!

Β

Sharon Trading Post: This is just about the cutest place ever. It is the definition of a small town general store. The best part is that they sell amazing deli sandwiches which we happily enjoyed at the river (which is literally right across the street!)

What we did:

White River: Making a trip here is becoming quite a tradition for Chad and I. It’s just the most beautiful little place – so peaceful and just the perfect spot for a picnic!

Bonfire: What’s summer without a bonfire? We made one most nights whether to cook on, make s’mores or just sit by and drink our wine.

Β

Outside: As usual, the majority of our weekend was spent outside – just the way we like it. We caught bugs with Chad’s nieces, picked flowers, swung on the tree swing, ate most meals and drank our coffee on the back porch…pretty much everything a summer weekend should be.

Outside2Outside

We pack up our bags and head out to NYC tomorrow. We’ll be there for a couple days and then we’ll get some time at home. It’s always so nice to be back home after traveling – makes you appreciate everything that much more.

Hope you all had wonderful weekends!

That picture you have of White River is just beautiful. There is nothing better than green trees and blue sky. Wow!

I completely agree – it’s hard to beat blue skies, water and greenery as far as scenery goes πŸ™‚

And yeah isn’t that so cool about King Arthur? I desperately want to do their baking school!

Hahaha I don’t know! There definitely need to be more soft serve flavors everywhere. Though this place being one of the only ones I know that offers that many flavors DOES make a good excuse to head up to Vermont each summer πŸ˜‰

You gotta go! You’re in the CT area right? My sister and I drove up two summers ago from CT to Saxton Rivers (there’s a whole recap of it here: https://caitsplate.com/2011/08/05/quintessential-small-town/) – it only took about 3 hours and we had SUCH a blast.

I love watching your journeys! I wish I could travel more, but that will come for me later after the kids are a little older. Looks like you had such an amazing trip and I love seeing that smile on your face! Have a safe rest of the trip Cait.
