Fresh Summertime Lemonade

0 · Jul 17, 2012 · 32 Comments

Lemonade is just one of those things that signifies summer in my brain.

DSC 0142

I don’t think I ever get a hankering for a glass of lemonade until June hits.

And then it’s all I can think about.

Slightly sweet, slightly sour and completely delicious.

DSC 0166

I found myself with a 2 pound bag of organic lemons on my counter…

They may or may not have been an impulse buy.

Regardless, there they sat and as I thought through different recipes I could make with them (including a re-make of these raspberry lemonade cupcakes) it suddenly hit me.

Life had given me lemons…so why was I trying to make anything other than simple fresh lemonade?

And so that’s what I did!

And let me tell you, if you think store-bought lemonade is delicious, just waitΒ until you try fresh-squeezed.

It’s unbelievable.

Fresh Summertime Lemonade

Makes 4-6 glasses

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice (12 organic lemons)
  • 5 cups cold water

Directions:

  1. Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil.
  2. Add sugar, stirring until sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Β Remove from heat.
  3. Transfer mixture to a large mason jar.
  4. Stir in lemon rind,Β lemon juice, and 5 cups water.
  5. Chill.
  6. Serve over ice; garnish with fresh lemon slices
