I’m sure you guys are all more than aware by now how much I love Fall. Growing up, we went apple picking every single year and I can still remember (and feel!) the excitement we felt as kids as that day approached! And I’m happy to say it’s still no exception, even in my adult years. My husband and I have happily carried on the tradition and absolutely can’t wait to do so with our little one too!
It was looking like it might be a little tricky to squeeze a trip in this year with my due date being in October, but we did it – despite it being a little trickier being 9 months pregnant 🙂 Luckily, I have a pretty great husband who not only managed Ollie during it but dutifully scaled and climbed all the trees that I couldn’t to get me each “perfect apple” that I saw 🙂
Speaking of Ollie, we wanted to make sure we found an orchard that allowed dogs since we absolutely couldn’t go without this little guy!
We were so happy when we found that Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock, NC (where we went 2 years ago) not only allowed but welcomed dogs. We were surprised by how many we saw there!
He had an absolute blast running around, sniffing all the apples on the ground, playing with the kids and other dogs as well as interacting with the farm animals (his first up close and personal experience with goats, geese and sheep!).
We definitely had to do a little digging to find some apples (I think it’s earlier in the season than we’ve ever gone before) but once we did, we were off and running! Or rather, Chad was off and running (read: climbing) while I pointed out which apples I thought looked the best!
It also couldn’t have been a more perfect weather day. High 50s with a cool breeze that felt incredible after having a string of 80 degree days here in Charlotte last week. We also always enjoy the views from this orchard (it really does feel like you’re in the sky!). We didn’t get as much foliage as we would’ve hoped for with it being so early in the season down here, but it was still really darn pretty!

We successfully filled our apple bucket AND made it through the line to get our apple cider doughnuts (which we have been enjoying every day since getting back). Another successful annual apple picking trip in the books! Can’t wait to get baking with our haul 🙂
