If you guys have followed me for a long while, you KNOW how obsessed I am with Fall. And probably one of the things that gets me MOST excited is when Fall clothes start coming out. As much as I love summer, there’s just something about being wrapped in a cozy sweater, sitting by a fireplace sipping a warm mug of coffee while the air outside is crisp and cool that lights my soul on fire. It makes me so excited just typing this!!! It’s honestly one of the best times of year. Fall walks with leaves crunching under your feet and the smell of everyone’s wood burning fireplaces going, the beautiful foliage that just seems to naturally nature…it’s all just my absolute favorite.
So if you’re anything like me and just the sight of Fall clothes (and recipes and decorations!) makes your heart swell, then hopefully you’ll enjoy this post! I’ve rounded up my fall wardrobe staples and the pieces that I’ve bought (or have my eye on!) for this year.
Cozy Sweaters
BP. V-Neck Long-Sleeved Sweater (only $39!)
I love wearing big, cozy sweaters with a pair of comfortable skinny jeans, leggings and boots. It’s pretty much my Fall wardrobe go-to. Growing up in the Northeast and having lived in NYC, New Jersey, Connecticut and Boston over the last 30+ years of my life, it’s going to be interesting if that holds true now that I’m in a more southern climate!
SHOP A FEW OF MY FAVORITES:
Long-Tailed Plaid Shirts
Plaid Cotton Blend Shirt (only $49!)
To me, Fall and plaid just go together. Similar to big, cozy sweaters, they work perfectly with a good pair of jeans or leggings and a pair of boots. They’re comfortable but structured enough that you still look put together. I love to layer these with cardigans or a light Fall jacket for my weekend uniform.
SHOP A FEW OF MY FAVORITES:
Leggings
BP. Classic Leggings (only $19!)
Leggings are just the perfect Fall wear. They’re warm enough but not so heavy that you’re sweating. They also make a nice comfy alternative to jeans and they’re perfect for wearing with a big tunic top, cozy sweater or plaid shirt. I pretty much live in leggings on the weekends during the Fall (and if I’m being honest, always find a way to sneak in a pair or two during the week as well 🙂 )
SHOP A FEW OF MY FAVORITES:
Comfy Jeans
1822 Butter Skinny Jeans (only $39!)
Okay so good pair of comfortable jeans don’t only come in handy in the Fall (I wear jeans all year round) – but I definitely rely pretty heavily on them as soon as Fall hits. I love mixing it up and throwing some fun colors in as well – olive and burgundy jeans have been my favorites the past few Fall seasons and I continue to love them! (oh and yes, I wear white past Labor Day!)
Booties & Booties
If you didn’t gather this from my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post, I’m literally obsessed with boots and booties. They’re my go-to footwear in the Fall (which came in particularly handy in the Northeast when you never knew if a snowstorm was right around the corner!). They’re comfortable and go with pretty much everything I frequently wear. I’m SUPER picky about them (I prefer a rounded toe, I like a heel but not too much of one, the tops have to hit juuust the right spot on my ankle or knee…etc.) but have found that I’m loving a BUNCH this season which makes me so excited. I like to have at least one neutral color, one grey, one black and then some fun colors to mix it up.
SHOP A FEW OF MY FAVORITES:
Warmer Activewear & Cozy Loungewear
Free People Laguna Thermal (SO soft and cozy & has thumb holes!)
It may sound silly, but getting to pull out my long running leggings and thumbhole shirts always makes me excited. Probably because it signals that the season has really changed. There’s honestly nothing better than Fall running (and hiking and walking and biking!). The air is crisp and cool but you’re not tromping through feet of snow and it’s such a refreshing change from the hot heat of summer! I also love that a lot of my Fall running clothes work well as lazy loungewear as well 🙂
SHOP A FEW OF MY FAVORITES:
Transitional Jackets & Vests
In the Northeast especially, early Fall means super crisp and cool mornings and evenings followed by pretty hot mid-afternoons. This means that transitional jackets and vests are a girl’s best friend! I love to have at least one good light quilted vest, one faux leather or suede jacket and an anorak jacket. They’re certainly a huge part of my Fall wardrobe (and also come in handy in the early Spring!) and I’m loving the ones I’ve seen so far this year 🙂
