Dropping in with a quick note to update you on Cait’s Plate 2023!
Hello friends!
It has been way too long! While I’ve been able to post here and there, I’m hopeful that this year will usher in more regular posting and in a way that is more in line with passions and values. I’ve spent the past few years really thinking about what I would like this business to be and what I want to offer and I feel like taking the time to do that was incredibly valuable in terms of where I ended up.
Other than some of the colors of the I’ll briefly walk you through a few of the bigger changes (most of which I also touch upon in that video above!):
FINANCING THE BUSINESS
I’ve stepped away from sponsored posts and am leaning more heavily on affiliate marketing. This way I’m not bound to advertiser messaging and instead can simply share the products I use and love in my own language.
I’m also hopeful to start creating more of my own products (more to come on that!) to keep Cait’s Plate viable as a business, rather than relying on income from advertisers.
SITE CONTENT
RECIPES: I started this site back in 2008 as a food blog. However, going back to school and getting my Masters of Science in Nutrition and RD credentials then further focusing in the anti-diet space has sort of naturally shifted the foundation of what I do. While recipes will always remain a part of Cait’s Plate, I won’t be creating multiple new recipes each week like I once did, as I just don’t have the bandwidth to be testing in the kitchen. I’m hopeful as the kids get older and are in school full-time this will change, but for now, it’s just not realistic. I’ll still be sharing recipes I’m loving or creating, it just won’t be at the same volume it once was. Find some of my favorite winter warmers here.
ANTI-DIET: As I mentioned above, my mission with this brand really rests on helping those stuck in the diet cycle find peace with food and body. I’ve added Daily Reminders (I call them ‘daily’ but right now I don’t post a new one daily, but hopefully will be able to do them at least weekly) which are just reminders and/or advice to help you on your journey of ditching dieting and reclaiming your life. In addition to those little quick posts, I also update the Anti-Diet Nutrition section of the site with more in-depth posts to help you.
JOY: If you watched my video, you know that I’m working on including more of what’s bringing me joy – whether it’s a good book, an outfit I had fun pulling together or found particularly cozy, a moment with my kids, a sunset – just the little things that bring a smile to my face.
Reclaiming joy in life was a huge part of what pulled me out of diet culture. The more I moved away from the strict control of food & body, the more room there was for me to invest in things that brought me joy. Slowly, immersing myself in the things that brought peace and joy to my soul took up so much room, that there just wasn’t any time, brain space, money or energy left to spend on fixing, managing or controlling my food and body. And what resulted was a fuller, happier, more joyful life than any of the years I spent obsessing over food & body. That, is exactly what I hope for anyone stuck in diet culture to be able to ultimately achieve.
Here are the areas where I’m sharing my joy:
- WEEK IN PHOTOS: Since I’m not on social media much any more, I thought this could be a fun weekly post to share the things that brought a smile to my face or brought me some joy. It’s kind of a Sunday tradition to scroll through my camera roll and send my favorite photos off to my family, so I figured, why not do it here!
- BOOK CLUB: As someone who loves getting lost in a good book, I’ve decided to start sharing my favorite reads with you, in case you also love a good book! (I even added a Kid’s Book Corner to my Amazon storefront to share the books we love as a family!)
- OUTFITS I’M LOVING: You can read more about this series in the post – just sharing my love for putting together an outfit that feels extra cozy or that I just love.
I’ll hopefully be adding more into the mix as the year goes on, but that’s where I’m starting.
And that’s pretty much it! Not too much change and definitely much more in line with where I want the business to be headed moving forward. As always, feel free to leave comments or questions on this post or shoot me an email to get in touch!
