Healthy Habits

1 · May 1, 2012 · 16 Comments

Happy May!

I’m not sure how many of you are aware of Cooking Light’s 12 Healthy Habits program, but it’s essentially a year-round program that sets small goals each month for readers to work towards accomplishing for a happier, healthier life!

I love the whole premise of the program because it preaches small, manageable changes adding up big.

That said, this month’s Healthy Habit?

Now THAT is a challenge I can get behind!

They even provide a Healthy Habits Tracker for you to download and print out to keep track of your progress throughout the month.

The previous month’s challenges:

January: Eat More Fruits and Vegetables—Add 3 more servings of fruits and vegetables to your diet each day. Download January’s Healthy Habits Tracker PDF.

Feb: Get Moving—Increase the amount of aerobic exercise you do. Download February’s Healthy Habits Tracker PDF.

March: Get Cooking—Cook at least 3 meals more per week than you are now, even if that means cooking breakfast or lunch (for freezing, maybe). Download March’s Healthy Habits Tracker PDF.

April: Go For More Grains—Add 3 servings of whole grains per day. Download April’s Healthy Habits Tracker PDF.

All great healthy steps as well.

So in order to kick off my May right, I dug into a delicious breakfast:

I had a nearly-empty sunflower seed butter jar just waiting for some hot oats to be added to it!

I cooked the oats separately adding 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, 1/2 cup sliced strawberries and 2/3 cup water to a microwave safe bowl and heating on HIGH for 3 minutes.

I poured the cooked oats into the jar allowing the heat from them to melt the sunflower seed butter in the jar so it was nice and gooey and then topped with granola!

A pretty delicious way to do something healthy for myself!

Clara thought so too!

Great post! I definitely will not survive the day if I don’t get any breakfast in. I do intense workouts some days but on days that I’m not, I just either do an hour or more of yoga or go on a long walk or lift weights or ride my bike leisurely. Do you know that you inspire me to run every time you post your runs? Also, I have a proposal, if you’re up for it… I’ve been lazy with core work lately since I went to Portland… would you be up for a buddy thing? Say, do the Itty Bitty Bikini workouts certain days of the week and check in with each other to see if we did it? This way, we get motivated to get some ab work in, not that you don’t already work out too much.

Haha I love that idea! When I’m done studying for the GREs and can be more consistent with exercise I’ll definitely take you up on it! 🙂
