sharing my go-to baked sweet potato fry recipe complete with my favorite homemade fry sauce.

If you’ve followed along with me for a while then you know that I absolutely love sweet potato fries.  Surprisingly, until now, I’ve never shared my go-to recipe for homemade fries!

No fancy equipment necessary – just a baking sheet and an oven and you’re good to go!

There’s a secret ingredient to these french fries to give them a nice crunch: cornstarch!  It helps crisp up the fries so they feel more like the take-out version you’re used to, despite being baked in the oven.  You also want to make sure you’re not crowding the pan.  You want plenty of space and they should all be laying in a single layer to ensure they’re all able to crisp up well.

For me, half the key to enjoying french fries is having a really good dip and this one is one of my absolute favorites.

It comes together with just a handful of ingredients (most of which are likely hiding in your pantry or fridge!) and literally only requires the stir of a spoon.  I also love it on my veggie burgers, chicken and salmon!

I used siggi’s plain whole milk yogurt whose simple ingredients make it thick and creamy while lendinga delicious tang plus a nice boost of protein. We almost always have a 24 oz. container of siggi’s on hand because we use it in everything (making this sauce even easier to pull together!).

If you want to make it toddler friendly, you can reduce or omit the chipotle sauce giving them a nice protein-packed dip option!

Description

sharing my go-to baked sweet potato fry recipe complete with my favorite homemade fry sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sweet Potatoes:

  • 1 large sweet potato, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Olive oil
  • Salt & pepper
  • Optional seasonings: cajun spice, adobo powder, chili lime seasoning, etc.)

For the Fry Dip:

  • 1 cup siggi’s plain whole milk yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sauce from chipotle chilis in adobo (more or less depending on preferred spice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pickle juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (optional)

Instructions

For the Sweet Potato Fries:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss sweet potatoes with cornstarch, salt & pepper (and any additional seasonings of your choosing) ensuring all the fries are well coated.
  3. Add a drizzle of olive oil (about 1-2 teaspoons) to the bowl and toss well, using your hands to rub the oil on the fries, making sure there are no clumps of cornstarch showing.
  4. Spread the fries on the prepared baking sheet in an even layer then place in the oven.  Bake for 25-30 minutes until fries begin to brown and crisp.
