With Easter weekend behind most of us (I’m Greek Orthodox and will be celebrating this coming weekend!) that means breaking our Lenten promises. I have many friends who often give up sweets for Lent so I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate the end of the Lenten season with 15 recipes that will satisfy your sweet tooth!
As I’m sure those of you have read the blog for years, I truly believe there’s a place for everything in the diet so long as you’re practicing moderation and balance. So with that said, here are 15 recipes you can turn to when that sweet craving strikes!
A whole grain twist on a classic! These also freeze well so you can make a batch and keep them on hand for when a craving strikes!
2. JUMBO WHOLE WHEAT PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
These peanut butter cookies use whole grain flour that adds fiber and greek yogurt that cuts down on the fat you’d normally get from the butter. Every bit as good as the classic but a little better for you! They also make for AMAZING ice cream cookie sandwiches!
3. DARK CHOCOLATE AND PEANUT COVERED APPLE WEDGES
The crunch of the cookie with a juice of an apple! Plus you can’t beat that chocolate/peanut flavor combination!
No real redeeming health qualities to these guys…but boy are they delicious as a once-in-a-while treat!
5. WHOLE GRAIN PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY BARS
I mean, it’s peanut butter and jelly in cookie bar form! It doesn’t get much better if you ask me…
6. TRIPLE CHOCOLATE (ALMOST!) VEGAN EVERYTHING COOKIES
Inspired by my favorite Earth Fare vegan cookies – these ones are hard to beat!
7. DARK CHOCOLATE CHIP OATMEAL COOKIES
The dark chocolate chips bring a little something different to the classic oatmeal raisin cookie. But you can use raisins or milk chocolate chips if you like! You can also sub whole grain flour to give them a little fiber! They freeze well so you can make a bunch to have on hand for a while!
8. PPK’S PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE PILLOWS
These remain one of my absolute favorite cookie recipes to date. If you haven’t checked out PPK’s site – definitely do! She’s a genius in the kitchen.
This idea came to me one summer and they’ve been a summer staple ever since! Definitely an indulgence, but worth it as a fun summer treat!
10. CRANBERRY WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIP OATMEAL COOKIES
Don’t sell yourself short by reserving these only for Christmas! It’s an awesome flavor combination year round!
11. DARK CHOCOLATE PUMPKIN SEED BARK
Another one you can easily pop in the freezer and have on hand when the sweet tooth craving hits! (Plus I personally think it tastes better straight from the freezer! 🙂 )
12. COFFEE-SPICED OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
If you don’t already know it, I’m telling you right now. COFFEE + CHOCOLATE = HEAVEN!
13. DARK CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER CUPS WITH SEA SALT
Chocolate and peanut butter. Enough said!
14. WHOLE GRAIN BANANA CHOCOLATE CHIP YOGURT SKILLET CAKE
This vanished from our house in a matter of days. It’s super moist thanks to the yogurt and banana and gets just a touch of sweetness from the chocolate chips. So, so good.
15. NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE CHIP PEANUT BUTTER ENERGY BITES
I absolutely love these little things. They’re filling and delicious but also have a perfect sweetness to them which makes them perfect for that afternoon slump!
